Job Opportunity - Two (2) part-time positions Communications Officer and Publications Officer

The Gender Equitable and Transformative Social Policy for Post-COVID-19 Africa (GETSPA) Project, is pan-African project, sponsored by the Open Society Foundations and hosted by the Institute of African Studies at the University of Ghana. The aim of the project is to transform the discourses, approaches and cultures of social policymaking and implementation in Africa through research, capacity building, advocacy, networking, documentation, and constituency-building activities. The first phase of the project spanned from November 2020 to May 2023. The current second phase is scheduled to span from August 2023 to July 2026.

The project in its current phase intends to expand its core staff in order to effectively deliver its mandate. We therefore invite applications from suitably qualified persons for the underlisted part-time positions:
 

1. COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER – JOB OVERVIEW

The communications officer shall be required to work closely with the project implementation team (PIT) and lead the development and implementation of a communication strategy in an efficient and cost-effective manner to contribute to the realisation of the mandate of the project.

Duration: six months, subject to renewal

Responsibilities and duties

  1. In consultation with the PIT, develop, operationalise, and lead the implementation of a dissemination and communication strategy with clear targets and timelines for the project.
  2.  Advise and assist the national research teams in their dissemination and communication activities.
  3. Provide training for the GETSPA network members to improve their capacity in research communications.
  4. Identify opportunities for communicating the findings of the GETSPA projects and support the GETSPA team to access and effectively use such opportunities.
  5. In collaboration with the Project IT team, keep the website and all the official social media channels of the Project up to date with relevant content.
  6. Acquire sufficient knowledge of the GETSPA project to be able to represent the project should the need arise.
  7. Produce communication materials for different media to disseminate project findings.
  8. Oversee the design of publicity materials and publicise project activities.
  9. Regularly assess the communication programmes and activities through appropriate surveys and feedback mechanisms and advise PIT on the way forward.
  10. Any other communication and dissemination tasks requested by the PIT that promote the realisation of the goals of the Project.

Requirements and qualifications:

  1. A minimum of a master’s degree in communication studies or related disciplines from a recognised university.
  2. At least three-years proven work experience in media, corporate communications, journalism or related fields.
  3. Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  4. Professional proficiency of the English language
  5. Proficiency in French will be an added advantage
  6. Exceptional organisational and interpersonal skills.
  7. Ability to use content management systems, social media platforms, web analytics tools and digital marketing methods.
  8. Proficiency in content creation tools such as Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite.
  9. Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

 

2. PUBLICATIONS OFFICER – JOB OVERVIEW
The publications officer shall be required to work closely with the project implementation team (PIT) to ensure that the publication of required resources and outputs to conform to the publication style and guide and contribute to the realization of the mandate of the project.

Duration: Six months, subject to renewal

Responsibilities and duties

  1. Ensure that the process of publication from conception to realisation is implemented, including assigning titles to identified copyeditors and proof- readers, page setting of reports, liaising with publishers, designing cover pages.
  2. Ensure that the relevant legal permissions are obtained for publications.
  3. Lead the development of a style guide for the various published outputs.
  4. Ensure that in-house and external publications conform to the style guide of the Project.
  5. Publish in-house publications — design, copy-editing, and typesetting.
  6. Perform any other publication-related task required by the PIT to ensure the realisation of the goals of the Project.

Requirements and qualifications

  1. A minimum of a master’s degree in publications or related disciplines, from a recognized University.
  2. At least three years relevant post qualification experience in publications or related fields.
  3. Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  4. Professional proficiency of the English language.
  5. Proficiency in French will be an added advantage.
  6. Previous editorial roles will be an added advantage.
