Dr. Newman Tekwa is a post-doctoral fellow of the South African Research Chair (SARChI) in Social Policy, University of South Africa. An expert on gender and social policy in Africa, his research niche includes gender, land and water reforms framed within the Transformative Social Policy Framework (TSP). His publications highlight the need to return to the wider vision and multi-tasking as opposed to the current externally imposed residual and mono-tasking of social policy exemplified by the social protection paradigm promoted in Africa and the Global South. His extension to issues of gender brings a dimension often missed in most welfare state research as highlighted by feminist scholars critiquing conventional comparative welfare state research. tekwanewman@gmail.com
Dr. Nkumbu Nalwimba is a senior agricultural officer at the Department of Agribusiness and Marketing, Ministry of Agriculture, Zambia. She holds a PhD in Rural Development and Management from China Agricultural University and researches foreign aid, agricultural investments, farmer input programmes, agricultural value chains, livelihoods, political economy, agricultural policies, capitalism, and land governance. She was a research fellow for the International Poverty Reduction Center in China (IPRCC) from August 2016-July 2017. Ramola Ramtohul is an Associate Professor at the Department of Social Studies, University of Mauritius. She teaches Gender Studies and Sociology and has published widely on women, gender and politics in Mauritius. Her research interests include gender, politics and citizenship in multicultural contexts as well as high net worth migration and citizenship. She has received research fellowships from the University of Cape Town, American Association of University Women, University of Cambridge, and University of Pretoria. She has a PhD in Gender Studies from the African Gender Institute at the University of Cape Town. Some of her recent publications include Ramtohul, R.
